Summary of Current Course Content Knowledge

The weekly objectives I have prior knowledge of are using various methods of citing information. I also vaguely remember what methods are to be used when finding reliable scholarly resources. I also remember sourcing information from different videos.

Things have changed in the system since I took my bachelor’s here at Grand Canyon University. This Halo system is set up a bit differently than the last therefore I will be navigating a new system. This will be the first learning curve. Next, I will also be looking to find locations here in town where I could do my practicum and internship hours. Something else I have not had experience with regarding the objectives is exploring the personal dispositions in which counselors need to be successful.

I would like to continue discussing the requirements for the master’s program as I can see that it differs from the past courses I took during my bachelors. I do not have any concerns or questions yet.

Class Introductions

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Margo Moriarty. I pride myself on being an educator and mother. I was blessed to be born to a mother who was a school administrator for thirty years. Most recently, I became the founder and director of HoliTOMoli Holistic Arts Academy, a preschool that I started for my son. This community was built from the ground up five years ago when my son Tom was born. In our daycare center we also provide lactation support for new families in need. I currently hold a BA in education, and I am pursuing my dream of becoming a counselor. A few of my favorite things are hosting and planning community events, playing music and doing yoga.

I am truly excited about learning how to support adults and children in their healing process through counseling and applied psychology. For me, the toughest thing will be to get back into the swing of things. I am full time single mom which I think will be the most challenging part of this if my study time is pulled when he is sick. I know that I can do this because I am highly committed to this program and my growth journey. I want to create a healing center for families who have undergone similar situations to my son, and I have.

Topic 1 DQ 1 (Obj. 1.1 and 1.2)

After heading to the Learning Management System Video Series in the Topic 1 Resources to complete this DQ, I chose the classroom communication video.

To summarize, there are four communication channels including the weekly discussion forum, class questions and the messages tab.

The discussion forum is where the weekly discussion forum between students takes place. If you have a question about topic material or need to clarify topic questions this is the best place to post. (Grand Canyon University,2022.)

One thing I found helpful from this video was that we can contact the instructor privately in the message’s inbox icon. The teacher’s name can be allocated on the left to contact, and the written area will be on the right. The announcements section is where the instructor can post a message to the entire class. I may utilize this information if I have any questions to see if my instructor posted any messages to the class. If there is no clarification there or in the class questions, I will contact my instructor directly in messages. If I forget where to access which communication avenue, I will refer to the video for guidance or support.
