There are currently approximately 7.5 billion people on the planet, residing in 196 countries across 7 continents. The number of cultures in the globe is unknown, however they are divided into groups according to castes, religions, regions, languages, ethnic groups, etc. People’s economic development is influenced by where in their nation they now live. The social lives of the inhabitants of a geographical border (country) are defined by their respective cultures and traditions. The industrial revolution altered the rate at which many nations’ economies developed. The nations that benefited more from the revolution were referred to as developed nations, while the nations that benefited less were referred to as developing or underdeveloped nations. At first, the people who resided in the developed nations were higher in underdeveloped and developing countries and lower in developed ones. Global trade and expansion were strictly prohibited. People did not begin to travel to industrialized nations in search of a better lifestyle or higher standard of living until after the emergence of globalization. People who live in less developed nations still cannot afford the expense of life in developed nations. As a result, throughout the past few years, the majority of the world’s population has not experienced significant economic growth.

Student reply 2:

What is the world’s population and how is it broken out by continent, culture, and economic growth?

Presently, the world’s population is above 7.5 billion people living in 7 continents and about 196 nations. It is not clear on the number of cultures present in the world; however, they are classified by religions, classes, regional, language, ethnic, economic development among others. People in the same locality or region have similar characteristics (Rivoli, 2014). For instance, in March 2013, Africa was branded as the poorest continent in the world; nevertheless, the World Bank anticipates that many of African nations will reach the so called middle income status (US$1,000 per person a year) in 2025 if current growth rates persist.

Why do you think that approximately one-sixth of the world’s population has not experienced much substantive economic growth over the past 30 years?

Human population on earth is now more than 7 billion, this large world inhabitants size is simply a very new development. About 200 years back the population of the world was below 1 billion. Due to poverty, high mortality rates and recurring crises the world’s population increased stagnantly. However, with various developments in the world, not to forget industrialization, much advancement has been made, starting from lowering mortality rate to reducing the poverty line in every country. Despite these developments, it is sad to see some countries still lag behing in poverty.

Some countries may experience extreme poverty due to segregation by the international communities, and unequal distribution of resources. According to conflict theory, inequalities are realized on the society are due to unequal distribution of limited resources. People with influence or power are dominating the limited resources (Hill & Hult, 2017). They control where the resources should be allocated. It is due to such factors that have led to conflicts in the certain countries, hence leading to internal wars. For instance, cases in Somali, Iran, Iraq among others. The conflict started on such ground and later on escalated to individual gains.
