This assessment’s HRM healthcare challenge is focused on foundational principles in law and ethics in the healthcare field using the the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), a law that extends healthcare-related rights, protection, and affordable costs to Americans. To help contextualize your approach to the legal, ethical, and regulatory environment of healthcare, you will prepare a lecture to the new class of HRM professionals on the foundation of law and ethics that guide the human resource practices at Vila Health.
This assessment’s HRM healthcare challenge is focused on foundational principles in law and ethics in the healthcare field through the lens of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The PPACA is a law that extends healthcare-related rights and protections to Americans that includes subsidies to make medical costs more affordable. The assessment’s scenario will help contextualize your approach to the legal, ethical, and regulatory environment of healthcare.
HRM Healthcare Challenge
The Regional Director of Human Resources at Vila Health, Silvia Reed, has come to you and suggested that you are the best person to provide a lecture to the new class of HRM professionals on the foundation of law and ethics that guide the human resource practices for the organization. This is a terrific opportunity for you to raise your profile in the organization. She is not a fan of the overly esoteric and she suggests you couch your lecture in the context of actual practice, while using the PPACA to explore the issues.
Using course resources and your own research about this law, include the following in your lecture’s script:
· Explain the purpose and source of law of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
· Does it originate in common law, statutory law, or administrative law? What are the differences between these sources of laws?
· Given the arguments and changes surrounding laws such as the PPACA, what might a single payer healthcare system look like in the future?
· Evaluate what ethical theories might be used to consider the PPACA.
· Conduct your evaluation of this legislation through the perspective of normative theory, consequential theory, deontological ethics, an ethical relativism view, and virtue-based ethics.
· Asses what the future might hold for public healthcare in the United States.
The deliverable for this assessment applies professional skills in HRM to workplace situations that you will likely encounter in your day-to-day work. As part of your learning, we focus on the development of effective professional communication skills for the workplace. Your assessment should meet the following additional requirements:

Length: Your script should be 3–4 typed, double-spaced pages, plus the cover and resources pages.
· The first page should be a cover sheet with your name, the course number, assessment title, and date. No other information is required on this page.
· The last page should be the reference list.
