The term “culturally responsive instruction” has been around for a few decades but is getting more attention in recent years. With classrooms growing more and more diverse every year, teachers are interested in how they can best teach students from different backgrounds. 

 

Scenario

Imagine you oversee and promote multicultural education at a large urban school district. You have been tasked with setting up a

 workshop/training for new teachers 
who work with a culturally and socioeconomically diverse mix of students. You research to learn about strategies and practices that have worked well for other educators in practicing culturally responsive instruction. 

 

Assignment Deliverable

Create a 10- to 15-slide presentation that provides information about culturally responsive instruction, what it looks like in the classroom, and strategies for establishing and maintaining a culturally responsive classroom environment. 

 

Include the following in your presentation: 

· An introduction that includes the following: 

· Definition of culturally responsive instruction 

· Description of a culturally responsive learning environment 

· Culturally responsive teacher behaviors demonstrate the following: 

· Understanding and appreciation for all cultures 

· Respectful and positive interactions 

· Culturally responsive student behaviors demonstrate the following: 

· Understanding and appreciation for all cultures 

· Respectful and positive interactions 

· Culturally responsive instructional strategies that address the following: 

· Lesson delivery 

· Adaptation techniques 

· Multiple perspectives 

· Cooperation and collaboration strategies for working with other teachers to support culturally responsive instruction 

· Identify specific culturally responsive 
materials, books, and, digital tools aligned to the topics 
(be specific with names of books and authors and specific websites aligned to the topics you are covering in this training)

· Identify possible controversial topics that may arise and include specific strategies for teaching these controversial topics 
(two-part response and the word topics is plural)

· Identify
 specific strategies for recognizing and addressing your implicit and personal bias (see ebook and read sections aligned to this topic to address this component). 

Cite at least 
3 references to support your assignment. Format your citations and references for sources and images according to APA guidelines.
